Somaliland Oo Ka Hortagtay Warar Khaldan oo Ku Saabsan Dagaalka Iran

On March 3, 2026, Somaliland issued a crucial warning to its citizens, media, and the global community about the proliferation of false information circulating on social media. This misinformation has been packaged to resemble credible updates from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, linking the fictitious narratives to the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.

In a statement from the Somaliland Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was clearly stated: “The Government of the Republic of Somaliland warns the public, media, diplomatic partners, and the international community about organized attempts to fabricate information on the official social media outlets of the government, disseminating false news.” This caution underscores the critical need for vigilance in times of geopolitical tension, especially with volatile narratives surrounding international relations.

The fake reports specifically claimed that Somaliland’s President, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Cirro, had a phone conversation with the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It suggested that President Cirro offered condolences regarding Iranian attacks targeting the UAE and that the two leaders discussed the regional situation. This kind of misinformation can have further implications on the political landscape of Somaliland and its relationship with neighboring countries.

Even more troubling were claims suggesting that President Cirro expressed support for Israel and condemned Iranian assaults against the nation. Such statements could provoke a backlash, not only against Somaliland but also influence public perception across the region and beyond. Misinformation like this can easily escalate into significant diplomatic fallout, amplifying tensions that could affect regional stability.

Additionally, various individuals in different languages have been reportedly urging the Iranian government to consider targeting Somaliland, arguing that Hargeysa and Tel Aviv share close relations. This narrative poses a potential risk to Somaliland, as it may inadvertently position the territory in the crossfire of conflicts that do not directly involve it.

It’s important to clarify that Somaliland does not host any military bases belonging to Israel or the United States, which has been a significant aspect of its foreign policy. Despite its unofficial status, Somaliland has maintained a delicate balance, navigating its international relations carefully to avoid becoming embroiled in broader geopolitical conflicts.

Some international media outlets have even speculated that Iranian allies in the region, including Iran itself, might consider targeting Somaliland due to its links with Israel and the US. This underscores the precarious position Somaliland could find itself in amidst a wider international dispute, highlighting the complexities of regional alliances.

In recent statements, Somaliland has condemned Iran’s aggressive military strategies against various Arab countries, but it has refrained from making extensive comments regarding the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict. This cautious approach illustrates how Somaliland is attempting to steer clear of being drawn into debates that might jeopardize its stability or international standing.
