Marvell expansion will create up to 350 new jobs and reinforce Ontario’s position as a leader in artificial intelligence infrastructure

OTTAWA — The Ontario government recently announced a significant investment of $238 million dedicated to expansion efforts by Marvell Technology Inc., a prominent player in data infrastructure semiconductor solutions. This venture will include the launch of a new office in Toronto, bolstering their semiconductor research and development operations in Ottawa and York Region, and the establishment of a cutting-edge optical lab. The expansion is projected to create up to 350 new jobs, contributing substantially to the region’s technology corridor while reinforcing Ontario’s status as a global leader in technology and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
“As one of the largest tech-hubs in North America, Ontario is proudly driving the development of next-generation technologies,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. He emphasized that this expansion will not only yield hundreds of high-value jobs but also strengthen the province’s leadership in the essential semiconductor industry that underpins a myriad of tech innovations.
Semiconductors are pivotal to the advancement of AI infrastructure, a sector that is witnessing explosive growth. With a focus on custom AI silicon and connectivity solutions, Marvell is innovating to ensure that cloud data center operators can deploy efficient, high-performance computing systems, essential for driving the future wave of AI innovation. Central to this expansion is the creation of an 8,000-square-foot optical lab, underscoring Marvell’s commitment to fostering leading-edge technology in Ontario.
“The world’s hyperscalers, leading data centre operators and OEMs rely on our technology to power their most demanding AI workloads,” remarked Sandeep Bharathi, president of the Data Center Group at Marvell. He noted that Ontario presents a rich talent pool of professionals adept in the latest semiconductor and AI technologies, allowing them to grow and enhance their leadership position in next-gen data center infrastructure.
As global demand for semiconductors escalates, Marvell’s investment promises to capitalize on Ontario’s workforce excellence, positioning the province as a competitive hub for semiconductor development and AI infrastructure. In support of this initiative, Ontario is offering up to $17 million in funding through the Invest Ontario Fund, illustrating the provincial government’s commitment to nurturing tech growth.
In a landscape marked by economic uncertainty, the Ontario government’s strategy of reducing taxes and regulatory burdens aims to foster a resilient, self-reliant, and competitive economy. Since 2018, Ontario has attracted a historic $113 billion in foreign direct investment while creating a million new jobs, showcasing its robust economic framework.
